Development of Array Signal Processing to Asynchronous Distributed Channels
By N. Ono

Nobutaka Ono talk to ADASP about his research on asynchronous distributed microphone arrays.

Abstract

In this talk, we introduce asynchronous distributed microphone array, which we have been working on in recent days. In microphone array signal processing, time difference of arrival between channels is a significant feature for spatial information of acoustic field. Therefore, accurate synchronization between channels was necessary in conventional microphone array and it could be applicable for signals synchronously recorded by an array microphone connected to the same A/D converter. We aim to effectively utilize asynchronous recording devices such as smartphones, mobile devices, laptop PCs which are available in our daily experiences and to provide a basic technique for analyzing any sounds in real world. In this talk, we focus on applications to speech recognition and sound scene analysis.
